Tuscany - Medieval and Renaissance

Florence, Lucca, Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano, Arezzo

Day I - Florence

Arrive and check in to your hotel. Afternoon Afternoon the tour starts with the visit of Piazza S. Croce and its namesake namesake church where the spoils of Michelangelo Michelangelo Buonarroti, Galileo Galilei and Niccolò Machiavelli are preserved. We then proceed to Piazza della Signoria which is the central museum of Florence with its 6th century statues of which Perseo of Benvenuto Cellini, the abduction of the Sabine Women of Giambologna and David of Michelangelo. Our next stop is Piazza della Repubblica, ancient Roman Forum, terminating at S. Maria in Fiore where we can admire the majestic Cathedral with the bell tower of Giotto and the Battistero. Dinner in hotel.

Day II - Florence

Morning. Breakfast. visit of the Uffizi museum with its many works of art. You can admire works of Giotto, Cimabue, Cimabue, Duccio. Also the paintings paintings of Leonardo Leonardo and the only finished finished painting painting of Michelangelo, Michelangelo, even Raffaello Raffaello and some artists of the Venetian School (Tiziano, Tintoretto and Veronese). Afternoon free.

Day III - Lucca - Pisa

Morning: breakfast. Lucca: visit the city a medieval jewel starting from the city walls. Visit the Duomo of S.Martino (an excellent example of a central Italian sacred building in Romanesque and Gothic style), the Basilica of S. Frediano, Frediano, the church of San Michele Michele the forum and Piazza of the Amphitheatre, Amphitheatre, built on a Roman amphitheatre amphitheatre. The tower “Torre delle ore” (the tallest) and the tower “Torre del Guinigi” are to be admired. Afternoon: Pisa: visit the Duomo or cathedral of S. Maria Assunta, the bell tower or leaning tower, the Baptistery of S. Giovanni and the monumental cemetery. Dinner in hotel.

Day IV - Siena - San Gimignano

Morning: breakfast. Visit another medieval jewel. The tour must commence from Piazza del Campo famous world wide as the place where the Palio of Siena is held. After having admired the tower “Torre del Mangia, immersed in a medieval atmosphere we visit the Duomo, Baptistery, the oratory of S. Bernardino, the sanctuary of Santa Caterina and the art gallery. Afternoon:San Gimignano: the city of the towers, Unesco World Heritage site. To be visited all together; Piazza of the Cisterna, Piazza Duomo with the Duomo from which it gets its name and the buildings that surround it. Dinner in hotel.

Day V - Arezzo

Morning: breakfast. Arezzo: visit the city of the great poet Francesco Petrarca. The city has ancient Etruscan origins, after which it became an important Roman city with its centre in Piazza Grande, also called of Vasari, which rose where the Roman forum once was. The square has many buildings buildings of different different architectural architectural styles: the apse of the Pieve of S. Mary (Romanesque), the tribunal building (baroque), the fountain (sixteenth Century), the Palazzo of the “Fraternità dei Laici” (in part gothic, in part Renaissance, in part late Renaissance). Afternoon: visit the city walls with the fort of Medicea and numerous other churches with their works of art ( the Duomo, la Pieve di Santa Maria, the Basilica of S. Francesco where you can admire the masterpieces of Piero della Francesca).
